Exhibition view, ISELP, 2024.
Archaeological excavations, speleological explorations, and fictitious historical discoveries serve as possible windows into the missing fragments of an ancient past. Imagine excavating the cavities of a cave, uncovering artifacts that narrate the tale of a mythical animist society. The simulation of ruins is achieved using soap—a material that dissolves upon contact with water and vanishes entirely. This choice starkly contrasts with the durable, solid nature of archaeological artifacts, which endure for millennia, remaining intact within the earth’s strata.
