Two months spent recording cicadas, crickets, birds, water, and storms in the mountains of Shikoku to create a dialogue between a violin and these sounds teeming with life, broadcast through speakers on a quadraphonic sound system built from cedar wood, featuring Fostex full-range speakers.
Kamiyama KAIR residency, 2024.

Cedar wood in Kamiyama, located in Tokushima Prefecture, is an abundant and iconic resource of the region. Massively planted in Japan after World War II to meet high demand for timber, cedar is now widely used locally for crafts and construction. However, the overplanting has led to ecological challenges, such as a decrease in biodiversity and soil degradation, while the dense cedar forests contribute to pollen-related allergies and limit the natural regeneration of native species.

The performance involves an acoustic violin, accompanied by the diffusion of this piece through the four speakers to create spatialized sound thanks to a C++ code on a Tensy micro controler.
